Following the successes of previous years, the annual Stotfold Road Run organised under the guidance of the Society, took place on Monday 29th December 2008.
A dull and cold morning did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the many members and friends who gathered in Saunders' yard in Stotfold before moving off in the direction of the Three Tuns Public House in Arlesey. On arrival there, all were welcomed with mulled wine, sausage rolls and mince pies. After a suitable interval, giving everyone a chance to chat and warm-up, the Run then proceeded to loop back to Stotfold heading for the lunchtime stop at the Chequers, where the Saunders' Collection 98 Key Gavioli Scenic Organ of 1876 provided the musical entertainment. Committee members and helpers were busy selling raffle tickets as part of the fundraising for local charities, which was in addition to the collecting buckets carried by the engines. The engines then proceeded to the Crown on the Green in Stotfold before eventually making a move home or back to Saunders yard before it became too dark. The event continued until the early hours at 'Timbers' at the Tudor Oaks, featuring a live band. During the course of the evening the raffle was drawn. The day was successful in raising several hundred pounds for very deserving local charities.
